These are every day use jewelry items and working women find them informal yet very stylish and often wear them to their offices. Costume jewelry jewelry sets are also very popular as informal and friendly party wear.Necklace set is the most coveted and elaborate of women’s ornaments in India. In terms of construction, the neck ornaments can be classified into three main types, i.e. the stiff choker type, the flexible necklace type, and a combination of the two having a stiff collar portion adorned with loose hanging decorative pieces which keep simmering with tremulous light. The stiff collar portion is either solid or hollow; the former being adorned with chiseled or engraved patterns. Often series of decorative units to act as beads of different shapes are cast separately and strewn together to form a necklace.

By cheap, I mean that fake silverish jewelry that you can get for a low price at practically any store. I have some earrings that were a gift from a child relative that I like and they’re starting to tarnish. I know I could get better quality ones, but I can’t find any just like that. I’d like to be able to clean the ones I have, if possible.

I have gold cleaner for gold jewelry, but I worry that it can make it worse. Are there special cleansers for that or are their household products I could use?

How to Clean Your Jewelry at Home
Step 1. Wash jewelry thoroughly in warm soapy water (use a mild liquid dish soap).
Step 2. Thoroughly rinse jewelry.
Step 3. Place jewelry in plastic measuring cup (or similar container with a pour spout) large enough to hold the jewelry and tarnish remover without overflowing.
Step 4. Pour enough liquid tarnish remover into the measuring cup to submerge the jewelry.
DO NOT SOAK JEWELRY IN TARNISH REMOVER!
Step 5. Gently swirl the contents of the cup just enough to create a current in the cup, not enough to tumble the jewelry (do not put your fingers into the cup). Take care not to spin the liquid from the cup. If you do so, thoroughly clean the contaminated surface with soap and water.
Step 6. After 10 to 15 SECONDS (NOT MINUTES!), pour the tarnish remover into a separate sealable, clean, plastic bottle; or back into the original container.
We recommend using a new container to hold about 25% of the liquid as your active bottle, and refilling this bottle from the contents of the original bottle as the new bottle is depleted: this will keep the majority of the liquid in its cleanest and most effective state.
Step 7. Put a pea sized drop of mild liquid dishwashing soap into the measuring cup with the jewelry. Fill the cup with warm water while gently swirling the contents of the cup (do not put your fingers in the cup). Thoroughly irrigate the cup until all soap is emptied from the cup.
Step 8. Thoroughly dry jewelry. Allowing the jewelry to air dry can result in water spots.
Step 9. Store jewelry in a clean, dry place. Zip-lock bags provide the greatest protection from tarnish reoccurrence.

Cleaning Gold Jewelry
To remove tarnish: To clean gold jewelry that does not include any soft gemstones, pearls or crystals put the gold jewelry into warm sudsy water containing a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid such as Dawn, Ivory or Simple Green, and rub gently with your fingers or a cotton swab. For more abrasive cleaning (only if needed), brush lightly with a soft baby toothbrush. Be gentle. Even with the added metals, gold is still very soft and easily scratched.

Do not use toothpaste or baking soda to clean gold jewelry. They are much too abrasive. Use only mild non-phosphate dishwashing liquid.

Rinse your gold jewelry thoroughly with warm water and dry with a cotton cloth. Avoid using paper products such as tissues because they contain particles of wood that can scratch the gold’s surface.

Before storing, let the gold jewelry lie flat and air dry completely, overnight if possible. Moisture speeds the tarnishing process so it’s important to make sure your gold jewelry is dry before putting it away.

Once the jewelry is dry, if it looks dull, rub it gently with a jewelry polishing cloth. Use a clean cloth, or a clean section of a previously used cloth, so that the gold is not scratched. To avoid creating a pattern, rub with the polishing cloth in varying straight lines, not in a circular motion.

Machine cleaning: If your gold jewelry still looks dark, it may need aggressive machine cleaning. Most jewelers have some type of automatic cleaning equipment, such as an ultrasonic, ionic or steam cleaner, and experience using it so they can give you advice about whether such cleaning is safe for your specific piece of gold jewelry. If it is, they can thoroughly clean your gold jewelry for you. The professional ultrasonic machines used in jewelry stores heat the cleaning solution so are more effective than the small ultrasonics sold for home use.
